New year, new mindset!
I'm choosing to start 2020 with a grateful heart.
I'm pretty excited, i've got no clue what's around the corner but before I get any further into this year I just want to share 10 things I'm thankful for this year.
10 things I'm thankful for...
I know for a fact that I take it for granted waking up another day, it's such a huge blessing to just recognise that you are still breathing. So many people didn't live to see 2020 and i'm just so thankful that God is not done with me yet.
I've been running Asikara since 2018, (formerly known as Laura Jane Fashion, 2016,) and in 2019 I took the plunge and actually launched my second business Stay Lit Apparel, a Christian clothing brand for millennials. So here I am 2020, with not one but two businesses to run! It's a challenge and i'm taking it one step at a time but I get to wake up every day and do what I love.
A Loving Family
You can't really choose family, you're just born into one. Some people are born into families that they wish they weren't but I thank God for my family. When I tell you I couldn't have asked for anything better I'm serious. We're not perfect but we are happy and where God's love resides there's this unexplainable beauty that words can't describe
Having somewhere to go is home, having someone to love is family and having both is a blessing.
10 years ago I didn't have strong stable friendships. My relationships with others were as fickle as sand. I couldn't sustain great friendships and truthfully I was happy to conform and adapt in order to fit into social circles. Right now, where I am in life I can honestly say that God has blessed me with the best of friends. Some new, some old, some in-between. Every person currently in my life right now adds priceless value so friends if you're reading, I love you!
Poor heath is a silent killer. Not many people realise that by not prioritising your health you are actually not taking care of yourself at all. This year i've decided to go for better body 2020, I want to think about what i'm putting inside my body and actually strive for better mental, spiritual, emotional and physical health.
Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? - 1 Corinthians 6:19
A Second Chance
This may sound cliche but I know I make a whole lot of mistakes so honestly I thank God for second chances, not just second but third, fourth and fifth chances too. I'm grateful that I haven't been given up on.
Hear me out! As much as people think technology can be detrimental it's also very awesome. I'll tell you why i'm grateful for it, I have a best friend currently living on the other side of the world, relatives in the Caribbean that i've never met and not enough time in the day to physically visit the people I need to speak to and for that reason, i'm very grateful for technology!
Have you ever taken some time to just look up, look outside or take a walk? Next time you do, look closer. God has planted invaluable lessons in nature and I am grateful, especially as a designer, for a God who is rich in colour, print and design!
For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God. - Romans 1:20
You never know when your circumstances may change and your freedom may be wiped from underneath your feet. I thank God that I'm free to worship, to live, to breathe, eat and sleep. So many others don't have this privilege.
The Word of God
Yesterday I freaked out, I had an unexpected issue that genuinely changed my life (,you can read about it on the Stay Lit Apparel Blog). God drew my attention to Psalm 139, read it if you've got some spare time. I needed Him and through His Word He was there for me. Oh how I love God!
These are just 10 things i'm grateful for as I start 2020, it's early days yet but I already know God has even more great things in store that i'll add to the list next year!
