Living My Best Life - Tacha J #Featured

'There’s something about strong women, especially women of color, taking charge of their lives and living out their wildest dreams that shows me my own power.'

Introduce yourself!

Hey there! I’m Tacha and I’m a Beauty and Lifestyle Blogger based in the Washington, DC area. I’m a beauty lover, health and wellness enthusiast, and chronic homebody!

Hey Hey. The first thing I want to know is why blogging?

Blogging happened very naturally for me. For as long as I can remember, writing and beauty were two things I was completely obsessed with. Growing up I would make up stories and share them with my best friend then go sneak into my parents room and play in my mom’s makeup and skincare. I was nuts haha! My blog also came out of feeling like I needed a creative outlet to express all of myself and my interests. I started TachaJ.com right after graduating college and at the time I felt like a fish out of water. My blog became my passion project.

Passion project, I like that! What inspires you?

Honestly, I’m inspired by phenomenal women. There’s something about strong women, especially women of color, taking charge of their lives and living out their wildest dreams that shows me my own power.

That's truly amazing and I totally agree. I know we're a way into 2018 now but what were your highlights of 2017?

Oh, man! This is really hard to answer because 2017 was such an amazing year! I’m going to have to cheat and give you a few of highlights. For starters, I launched my blog, TachaJ.com, which was the catalyst for so many other blessings! I also attended my very first New York Fashion Week, something I only ever dreamed about. Being there was just surreal. My last highlight was having one of my blog posts published on @21Ninety. Like I mentioned before, I’ve been a reader and a writer for as long as I’ve known how and getting that recognition was unbelievably fulfilling

Can't lie, sounds like 2017 was your year. Here's to hoping 2018 tops that. I'm also slyly jealous because NYFW...big things! On the subject of fashion, how would you describe your style?

My style is classic chic with a vintage flair. When I was younger I used to chase trends, but now I know better. I love clothing that is TIMELESS and just makes me feel beautiful and confident. In my opinion you, can’t go wrong with good fitting denim, oversized shirts and sweaters, and a dope graphic tee (especially if it makes a statement!).

Can't agree with you more, make your own trend. So, I hear you're the co-founder of CurlTalk? Tell us more!

My best friend and I joined forces after noticing a lack of natural hair events in the DMV area. We wanted to celebrate our community in a way that felt organic to us and after tossing around a few ideas, we decided that an event centered around "girl talk" would be the best fit--hence Curl Talk was born. It was an overwhelming success and now we're preparing to expand our brand and host Curl Talk in different cities. Make sure you stay tuned for future announcements!

Growing up I would make up stories and share them with my best friend then go sneak into my parents room and play in my mom’s makeup and skincare. I was nuts haha!

For sure, add plans for the UK on that list! Behind every natural there's a hair story, what's yours?

Thank you! I’ve always been natural despite a brief period of trying the Brazilian Keratin Treatment in high school but I never knew what to do with my hair. Growing up my mom would braid my hair then when I got to middle school I took over doing my own hair. From that point until about my Sophomore year of high school, my hair lived in a bun. Then came my love affair with the flat iron. I had no routine for truly caring for my curls. If I’m being entirely honest, laziness kind of led me here. I was so tired of spending hours washing, blow drying, flat ironing, and doing it all over again the next week (little did I know how much work being natural would actually take). So in 2016, I decided to embark on this journey of really figuring out my hair and what worked for me. Now here we are!

Well i'm glad you did, embrace those beautiful curls! What are your goals for this year?

Where should I even start? I want to travel more, to meditate more and grow in my spirituality, and to collaborate with more amazing creatives and brands such as yourself! There’s a lot more than that, but that’s all I can share for now ;)

I'm down for a collab any day! Can't lie, I wish I'd asked more questions, before you go what tip can you share with us?

Don’t give up on that thing you can’t stop thinking about! I know this isn’t a beauty tip, but it’s something I always wish someone would have told me.

Amazing advice. It's been amazing chatting to you, how can we keep in touch with you?

You can keep up with me through my blog TachaJ.com and on Instagram @tach.j!
