Introduce yourself and your blog!

Hi! My name is Nana Yaa Ansah I’m Ghanaian American. TheMidiMaven was inspired by obsession/love for midi dresses. I would always wear these kinds of dresses and sparked a trend. A former friend of mine asked me why do you wear the same kinds of dresses all the time? I said because I look good in it. I decided to use that for my blog and also did a brainstorming session with a friend of mine trying to put all the things I love together and make it fashion related. A maven is an expert and midi refers to all things midi. It really was God because I’m not that creative when coming up with names. It’s the only one that stuck.

I learn something new every day! Why blogging?

I started my blog initially to document my journey to celebrity styling. I realised I wanted to do celebrity styling in college because I would dress like i'm going to red carpet for campus event and friends started asking me where I got my clothes and to help them find outfits and what not. So I started looking into that more. Shortly after graduating I contacted a stylist.

Clothes really come to life through the eyes of a stylist! What challenges come along with the blogging life?

Challenges would be defining my brand. I started as a fashion blog covering NYFW events and style trends but I don’t have a passion for fashion as people usually say. What I like to do is share my outfit ideas and share encouraging tips. Defining my brand and messaging and how to make a living from my blog.

Do what you love, that's what I live by. Let's talk about God, how has He impacted your journey?

I’ve had so many more people reach out to me and encourage me on my journey and personally relate to me once I started letting them into my personal struggles and my walk as a Christian. I think just being authentic and sharing God’s love will always be a blessing and serving people will always reap its rewards.

It gives me so much joy to find other bloggers who feel the same way. So you said you're a stylist, how would you describe your style?

I’d say experimental, feminine and effortless. I like trying new things and changing it up a little bit but I always like to be comfortable and not try too hard with my looks and it’s always feminine.

Femininity is a beautiful thing. Here at Laura Jane, we're big on modesty, it's a challenge none the less. How does modesty impact your style, if at all?

Modestly is something I definitely consider in my own personal style. I believe it’s also a reflection of your heart posture. For me I always felt a bit conflicted when I would wear certain items because I didn’t want to draw attention to my body (because I have a curvy shape, though not voluptuous). I would always wear long shirts and oversized sweaters to hide my figure or cover my butt. But eventually I became more comfortable with my body and shape and decided to celebrate my figure or rather wear more figure flattering items. I think that as a Christian we do have to be mindful of the image we’re projecting but also be conscious of our motives. I personally don’t dress for male attention, I dress to look good and want to present my best self. I only wear knee length dresses and sometimes i’ll wear midi skirts. I tend to wear clothes that accentuate my waist or flatter me because I know that works for me, I look and feel good. If I had a big butt or big breasts I would probably cover it more often than not. But my shape is my shape. It’s how God made me. I won’t wear something super revealing or clingy but I don’t think it’s fair to say I’m “showing off my body” when my body is naturally the way it is, you know? I feel like as long as you’re not trying to be seductive or trying to prove something to someone - God knows your heart so you’re good.

'I like trying new things and changing it up a little bit but I always like to be comfortable and not try too hard with my looks and it’s always feminine.'

It's definitely a matter of the heart, thanks for sharing that with us. Real talk, if there were no limits, where would you go in the world and why?

I would love to visit a lot of places such as Greece, Italy, Morocco, India, Egypt. I just love the architecture, history, scenery, and the reviews I’ve heard from people I know that have visited these places. I can’t just pick one place, there’s so much to explore in this world!

I can't lie I was expecting one but I see that travelling is something you love to do! What are your goals for 2018?

My goal is just to be authentic and more spirit led, to be aligned with God and to continue sharing my journey and encouraging women to pursue their purpose and live in abundance the way Jesus wanted us to. I just want to see lives transformed through my testimony and help young women love themselves more.

My favourite question - tell us one thing our readers would be surprised to hear about you...

Readers would be surprised to hear that I’m actually an introvert but I’m not shy! I don’t like to go out much but I love going to events and networking. I enjoy meeting new people, hate small talk.

Introvert that isn't shy, now that's interesting. Can't say I can relate though #teamextrovert! Before you go, please leave us some works of wisdom or encouragement.

One tip that just resonated with me is whatever you do, do it with all you’ve got. Be fearless even if you have doubts. I never thought that launching this blog would have me in rooms with so many people I admired and thought I’d never meet. It’s mind blowing what can happen when you set your mind to do something and go at it with full force. Make sure your motivation is pure and is not self serving.

Simply Beautiful! Thanks for taking the time out to let us into your world! How can we keep in touch with you?
